Updated 5 months ago

This lesson will cover closing the day in Toast.

How to View the "Close Out Day" Report

Closing out the day is an important step in Toast.  Closing the day gives the manager an opportunity to review the business day and make sure that everything from time punches to credit cards and cash payments were recorded correctly.

1.  The first step is to access the "Manager Activities" section of the Toast menu.  You may do this from any Toast terminal by swiping your manager card and locating the "Manager Activities" section.

2. Click the "Close Out Day" button

3. Next you will see the "Close Out Day" screen.  It should look similar to the "Server Check Out" screen.

On the left side of the screen you will see the "Status" of the close out process.  Toast will alert you to any issues that may prevent you from closing the day or warn you about potential problems or tasks that are remaining.

Issues that will prevent a close out from completing are in red  and warnings or remaining tasks will appear in yellow.  The third and final status are for items that are completed and those will appear in green.

Examples of problems that will prevent a close out from completing are:

Examples of warnings that will not prevent a close out from completing are:

  • Clocked in Employees (such as yourself)
  • Payments that need to be captured (These are credit card transactions that have not been batched)

In this example we have completed all of the tasks other than batching our credit cards.  Credit card batches are automatically captured at 4 am if you forget to complete this step.  Remember:  Captured/Batched credit cards are final and you may need help from support if a correction is required.

Capture Your Credit Cards

This step is not necessary to complete.  Toast will automatically captured your credit card batch each morning and you should allow the system to complete the capture.  This step should remain yellow.  However if for some reason you a message about multiple pending batches you should open a ticket with the support team.

Reconcile your gift cards

In this step you will batch your gift cards through the manual gift card machine in your togo area.  Please see How do I reconcile my gift cards
