Reconciling a server's gift card sales at the end of their shift

Updated about 5 years ago

This lesson will walk you through how to reconcile a server's gift card sales on a standalone terminal at the end of their shift.

Reconciling a server's gift card sales

Reconciling a server's gift card shifts at the end of their shift is an important part of reconciling their transactions and can help prevent complications during count-out.  Reconciling a server properly can help you locate mistakes and fraudulent activity before it becomes a problem.

During the shift

During their shift the servers should keep the merchant copy of any issues or redeems that they process during their shift.  These slips should be treated exactly like the signed credit card slips, that the servers currently collect.

At the End of Their Shift

At the end of the shift the server should add up their issues and redemptions, just like they do with their Visas, Mastercards, and other credit cards.

Reconciliation

The manager should double check that the server's reconciled gift card issues and redemptions match those same transactions that appear on their checkout report.
