How to change your 2 factor authentication method in Stratex

Updated about 6 years ago

Stratex contains sensitive and privileged data that is important to protect. One of the ways Stratex protects your data is with 2 factor authentication. This lesson will help you choose which authentication method works best for you.

Setting up two-factor authentication in Stratex

Stratex requires a second factor of authentication.  This kind of authentication is commonly known as 2 factor authentication or 2fa.  2 factor authentication is uses something you know and something you have to help ensure that you are who you say you are.   The benefit of 2 factor authentication is that it prevents an attacker from impersonating you by simply guessing your stealing your password.  In order to successfully attack your user they would also need to break into your email or steal your phone.

Changing your second factor:

By default Stratex will email you a code each time you login and you will provide that code back to Stratex in order to prove you are you (Please see How do I login to Stratex for the details).  However you can speed this process up by switching you second factor to be SMS or Google Authenticator (this is the fasted method).  Once you make this change Stratex will text you a code or you may download the Google Authenticator application to your phone and get the code from the app on your phone.

Option 1:  Setup SMS.

1. Navigate to the "Myself" menu from the Main Navigation at the top of the Stratex Dashboard (see:  Using the Stratex Dashboard)

2. Select the "Setting" button from the top of your profile

3. Choose the SMS tab from the setting menu.

4. Enter your cell phone number (charges may apply if you have a limited texting plane)

5. Select your Carrier from the drop down menu (this is who you pay for your phone service)

6. Select "Save".

7. You will receive a test message.  Enter the code to confirm you are who you say you are.

8.  Now you can receive text based alerts and get your second factor from your phone and not your email.

Option 2: Setup Google Authentication

1. Navigate to the "Myself" menu from the Main Navigation at the top of the Stratex Dashboard (see:  Using the Stratex Dashboard)

2. Select the "Setting" button from the top of your profile

3. Choose the Google Authenticator tab from the setting menu.  (This is the fasted way)

4. Follow the instructions on the menu.  You will be asked to download the Google Authenticator app from the apple or google play store.
