How Do I Sell and Redeem Gift Cards in Toast?

Gift cards are integrated into Toast.   You have the ability to sell physical and eGift Cards both online and on the POS.  This article will teach you how to sell, check the balance of, and redeem gift cards in the POS.

Selling a Physical Gift Cards in The POS

1. From the Toast order screen scroll to the end of the menu and locate the "Gift Cards" button.  

2. Then select the "Sell Card" Button.

3. Enter the dollar amount that the guest has requested and click "Next:

4. You will then be prompted to swipe or scan the card.   You may use the card reader to swipe the card or click "Scan" and use the front facing camera to read the QR code off of the gift card.

5. Select "Done" and the gift card will be added to the guest's check.  You may now process payment as you would any other order.

Redeeming a Physical or E-Gift Card

You may redeem a gift card from the payment screen.

1.  Locate the "Gift Card" button on the payment screen.

2. You will be prompted to Enter the Gift Card Number. You can key in or swipe the card with the card reader. Similarly, tapping Scan will activate the front-facing camera on the tablet to read the QR code on the gift card.

**** E-Gift Cards On a Guests Phone ****

    If a guest is at a table and attempting to pay with an e-gift card using their phone or other personal device, please do not take their phone from them or write the number down.  Instead, ask them to follow you to a toast terminal that is in the public area of the restaurant and not in a wait-station, bar, or To-Go area.  You will need to bring up the order, go to pay and allow them to scan the QR code on their phone using the front facing camera of the POS terminal. 

If your location is using Hand held pos devices you may use that device to scan the E-Gift card rather than asking the guest to accompany you to a pos terminal.  If the handheld is not available then please fallback to asking the guest to accompany you to a POS Terminal.

3.  At this point you may need to process an additional payment method if the card balance was not sufficient to cover the entire check.  If not then you may return the card to the guest along with the receipt.

Tipping and Gift Cards

A guest may leave a tip using a gift card.  This will function much like a credit card transaction.  If the terminal is using electronic receipts the guest will be prompted on the screen if not then a gift card receipt will print with a tip line and need to be updated like a credit card tip.

Checking a Card Balance Using the POS

You may use the POS to check the balance on a gift card.

1. locate the "Gift Card" menu on the order screen.  You will find under or at the end of the regular menu.

2.  You will be prompted to Enter the Gift Card Number. You can key in or swipe the card with the card reader. Similarly, tapping Scan will activate the front-facing camera on the tablet to read the QR code on the gift card.

3. The POS will then return the balance remaining on the card
